Profile Unitech Research, Inc. (URI) is a privately held company located in Irvine, California that specializes in custom software development. URI develops and supports products for the U.S. and Japanese markets. Its clients include large multinational corporations such as Hitachi, NTT Data, Unisys and Fujitsu. URI also localizes and distributes U.S. software products for the Japanese market.

Corporate History Unitech Research, Inc. (URI) was founded in 1989 as a joint venture between Koichi Yokota, presently the President and CEO of URI, and Computer Institute of Japan, Ltd. (CIJ), a software development firm located in Japan. Its initial objective was to capitalize on the experience and expertise offered by U.S. technical engineers to pursue U.S./Japanese software development opportunities. Since its inception, URI has developed several important software components for its clients. URI has also teamed with CIJ to localize and translate U.S. software products for the Japanese market. In 1995, Unitech Research played a vital role in the establishment of SpeedGate Communications, Inc., a URI affiliate company. SpeedGate Communications provides complete Internet solutions including connectivity, web/e-commerce development, and network consultation. In 1998, URI established a division under the name of Cadiant Software to develop workflow technology based on the Microsoft Exchange platform. Together with these affiliates, Unitech Research continues to offer unsurpassed expertise in various areas of software development and network infrastructure.
Staff The most important asset to an organization, in any industry, is its employees. At Unitech Research, we are proud of our talented staff members. Three distinct teams function to complement one another.
Technical Staff The technical engineering team is the largest component of URI. They work together to develop and produce the highest quality product. These products must meet not only the standards set by our clients, but also the high URI standards that we set for each project. The technical staff at URI comes from varied backgrounds with expertise in many different areas. They consist of programmers, technical writers, and translators. Business Development With experience in market analysis, research, and business planning, the business development team monitors the industry and proactively seeks business opportunities and/or improvements. This includes identifying and analyzing new product or service ideas, changes and improvements in current operations to increase productivity, and strategic alliances with other organizations to work towards a common goal.
Administration/Human Resources Our administration and human resources staff provides support and identifies key areas of improvement for office flow. Our excellent employee benefits package and corporate events are all organized and implemented by this team. This is an indispensable part of URI that keeps our internal structure cohesive and productive.
Principal Koichi Yokota, President and Chief Executive Officer Koichi is the founder and President of Unitech Research, Inc. With over 35 years of experience in software development and computer design, Koichi provides the leadership, direction, and uncompromised standards to URI. Before founding URI, Koichi was a consultant to Computer Institute of Japan (CIJ) from 1970~1976. He led some of the first software development projects at CIJ, including Fortran, PL/1 and COBOL compilers. He has held positions at McDonnell Douglas Information Systems Group, Microdata, and Systems Development Corporation. Koichi graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
